Past Events / Cancelled Events
Today (7th of July) I received an e-mail from a reader in the Militant Collective, he suggested that the Gazette serves as medium between all militaries and factions in order to write a new treaty which would replace all those who no longer exist. His idea was that the treaty would be enforced by a special group composed of every faction’s command and that sanctions would be applied if one military broke the rules. I’m curious to hear what you think about this idea? The Gazette’s aim is not to be political and to be honest I’d rather not involve the -BG- in such diplomatic matters but if I see that many people are demanding it we will bend to your request and with the help of our readers set up a large-scale conference for everyone to discuss these matters. No, this conference would not be exclusively reserved to our signet ring wearing elite and leaders but would be open to everyone with a right of one vote per avatar, however only designated NCOs and Officers would be able to speak at the conference because of the presence of so many people. These NCOs and Officers would have to gather the opinions of their troops and friends and present a list of guidelines and suggestions upon which everyone would then vote, they would not merely present their point of view but those of their men. Please use the comment section if you wish to respond or give your opinion.
Bad idea. Everyone is always tripping over themselves trying to make rules more complicated.
Just ask yourself “What rules would keep combat consistent, engaging and fun in this particular sim?” write them, keep them simple, keep them organized – and be done with it.
I agree with Anthony, every region for its own ruleset, and God for us all.
NO, Simply NO
The -BG- should not be used as a tool for politics, regaurdless of intention.
We report the news, we dont make it.
USi much?
But, seriously. Speaking objectively, as the author of STABLE. conferences fail epicly even amongst people whom are generally friendly to one another ideologically, let alone across the vast divides entrenched in the Second Life combat community. Forget the IS trolls that are about to come in here and cry moar for house rules (without saying anything of such scheme’s merits) – the whole thing will crash and burn on a practical consensus level alone.
I’d usually tell you what I think but on the Gazette it doesn’t matter what -I- think. Someone made a suggestion and I decided to put this page up for them. If negotiations were to take place the -BG- would not take any part in it, all that we are offering is media coverage for projects like this. Now if anyone is interested in organizing such conference we will get the message through to everyone. What you do after that is your own problem. If you have new, revolutionary ideas, wish to organize an event (be it a dance party, the anniversary celebration of your faction or a conference) just let us know and we’ll post it up for you. Sorry if this seemed a bit unclear, as a result I decided to rename this page, “Events”. Yes, that person did suggest that we serve as a medium between militaries but we did not mention that we would agree and we will indeed let you do your own thing. The person whom sent me this e-mail wanted to remain anonymous and I will not reveal her identity but I strongly encourage her to come forward and expose her point of view. After all it was your idea my dear, who can explain it better than you?

Didn’t we try this?
I think we did.
I am almost Positive we did.
Infact I think we did Numerous times
With MTAA, MTAA II, Fair Play, STABLE, The tens of Stable Rewrites, Natural Combat Rules, USi, and what not.
I figure diplomacy is quite stupid and each sim is better off with House Regulation. I mean, it makes the most sense, mostly because it pertains to the sim and the people in it. You can’t have one treaty governing Everyone, I mean this isn’t the Geneva convention you know. I know Vanguard Enforces Common Sense and Courtesy (If it seems stupid, it probably is) I Figure most Armies should go by rules such as that. Put it this way, a lot of controversy, but at least it works.
This would also lead for strict bans. Banning is stupidity made manifest, and an excuse for “We don’t feel like fighting.” I know Syxx Craig once said “A Military that cannot produce its own technology, tends to ban said Technology” How right he was.
Won’t work. Sure, if you get like minded individuals together YOU MAY get something like the original STABLE, but what happens is simple, breakdown. STABLE is a flawed document because it was never updated as was intended. People couldn’t get personal agenda’s and Epeens out of the way.
So, won’t work.
You can only unite people under a school of thought, not a mathematical one. Rules are best handled by each group alone.
I vote “yes” just to watch them try.
It would be nice to have the leaders of every military sit down at a table and discus issue instead of just rage banning each other. Whether the Gazzette should be responsible for this I’m not sure. Personally if it’s going to happen no organization should be in control of this ‘council’ because the organization in control would be able to influence it. There’s also the problem of the fact that many of the leaders in the SL combat community are griefers at heart, and don’t get along well with each other.
